Kisspeptin-10

Kisspeptin is a naturally occurring peptide that plays a critical role in regulating the reproductive hormone axis, specifically by stimulating the release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus. This, in turn, triggers the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which are essential for the development and function of the reproductive organs.

Kisspeptin acts through the G-protein-coupled receptor KISS1R, and its activity is closely linked to the regulation of puberty onset and fertility. Research has shown that kisspeptin is integral to reproductive function, with potential therapeutic implications in conditions such as hypogonadism, infertility, and disorders of puberty. It also plays a role in regulating energy homeostasis and may influence metabolic processes related to reproduction.
